Design Canada x Dominion City

What defines a national identity, is it an anthem? A flag? Is it a logo or an icon? How do these elements shape who we are? In the 1960s and 1970s, these questions were answered by an innovative group of Canadian designers, who used design to unify the nation.

This golden era of Canadian design has been a huge inspiration for us at Dominion City. It's part of the imagination behind our can designs, our core logo and so much of the subtle, often subliminal way we try to communicate our connection to the history of Canadian design.

It's for this reason that we are so proud to have partnered with the people behind Design Canada. Through the lens of graphic design, this new documentary film follows the transformation of a nation from a colonial outpost to a vibrant and multicultural society.

We've been tracking this film's progress since the team behind it first launched a Kickstarter project to help raise funds more than a year ago. We are so excited to play a small part in the film's debut now that the project is ready to be shared with Canadians.

Dominion City is hosting after-parties for the film's sold out world premiere screening at Toronto's Hot Docs Theatre next Wednesday June 13 and again at the Ottawa screening on Monday June 18. There are still a few tickets left for the Ottawa screening at the National Gallery, but you'd better move fast.
