Mario Moreno is one of the producers we have been buying from the longest, having purchased coffee from him in our first year. His coffee always impresses. This year’s washed Pacas from Los Andes is no exception. In the cup, we find notes of yellow plum, tamarind, and cola.
Mario Moreno is a third generation coffee grower and a member of the large Moreno family of producers. He purchased the initial part of his farm in 2008, and inherited the remainder in 2009. It takes a unique kind of person to come from a humble background—as the Morenos have—and make coffee cultivation a sustainable business for your family. Together, the Morenos built a wet mill, raised beds, and solar dryers to process and prepare specialty coffee. The Moreno family helps and motivates other farmers to produce and prepare better quality with the sharing of their knowledge and facilities. Aside from the Moreno brothers themselves, their children now produce coffee as well.
