Southbrook Vineyards - 2019 Triomphe Gamay
Gamay in Ontario and elsewhere are made in several different styles. Our single-vineyard 2018 Laundry vineyard Gamay is big and bold. Think of one of the Cru from the north of Beaujolais where the grape originated. The 2019 Triomphe Gamay, on the other hand, is more like a Beaujolais village: a little lighter but really delicious to drink, maybe on the patio, refreshing and almost too easy to drink. Crushable!
Hand harvested on Oct. 14, 2019 at 20.5 brix Whole clusters were manually sorted and 30% by weight went straight to the open top oak fermenter. The remaining 70% were gently stemmer, leaving many whole berries and allowed to ferment with wild yeast and malolactic bacteria. After pressing the wine was transferred to a mix of French and American oak barrels for 12 months of aging before bottling.
