Birreria Volo x DCBC = π

Birreria Volo x DCBC = π

Happy International Pi(e) Day!

This week we hosted our friend Paul Lachowich from Toronto's Birreria Volo for a collaboration brew day to create Slice of Life, our upcoming key lime lactose pale ale.

We're so excited to have teamed up on a concept we were both excited to try. Brewed with (a lot of) fresh zested lime, milk sugar, zesty hops and a rich malt body, not to mention a whack of real key lime pies, this beer is going to be an experience. We're looking forward to sharing it for the first time at our upcoming tap feature at Birreria Volo in Toronto on April 12 (more details to come!)

Volo is one of those beer institutions that inspired us long before we opened the brewery. I remember meeting friends at the original bar at corner of Yonge and Dundonald and sharing some of the most delicious and exciting beer I'd ever tasted. Their staff were knowledgeable, the beer selection curated to a 't' and the food simple but always delicious. Working together on a beer feels like a dream realized.

Although the original bar closed in 2016, the Morana family behind Bar Volo have been busy. A couple years ago they opened Birreria on College Street, a hole-in-the-wall style spot with a focus on funk and sour beer and the coziest vibe around. In addition to Birreria, the Volo team produces Cask Days, one of our favourite beer events anywhere, and import some of the world's greatest beer through Keep6 Imports. (Look for the Keep6 tent at Dominion Day this year!)
